With the amazing ladies of Blue Mountains Rugby providing a classy boost to the Lapstone Oval match day atmosphere.
There was plenty of signs of relief in the First-Grade camp as the boys lifted themselves from last week’s effort to run out 27-22m winners. The game started in a positive manner and the Blueys held the upper hand most of the match against a very determined opposition when taken into account the two tries against the run of play to the visitors it was an even more impressive win than the score line showed. Still plenty of improvement to be had but we are heading in the right direction as the comp reaches the halfway point on Saturday against Lindfield. Not only did he score a classy try in front of the ladies in the clubhouse corner Ellis Patrick was as usual dominant Pai was solid in his first grade debut JD as usual held the opposition pack at bay Graham Kondek kicked arse and Mitch got the refs nod as best on paddock.

As expected were far too strong for St Pats taking their winning sequence to six in a row with a powerhouse 34-5 win. Against their usual practice this game saw them dominate right from the start and while St Pats gave them plenty to think about at stages like the class team they are they just clicked up a gear and made them pay. Daniel Farrugia was outstanding and a worthy winner of man of the match honours in a star studded line up which now has to get prepared for what will be a huge game against Linfield.

Faded late to go down 15-7 the boys had an enterprising start and led 7-0,and they as usual battled against the odds the last ten minutes of the first half saw them defending on their line in some of the best defence and courage you are likely to see on a Rugby field and held them out. However in the second spell Pats lifted again and late in the game we seemed to drop off and with everything going their way they secured the crucial two points on offer. Without a doubt brilliant inside centre Campbell Russell was the star of the show sensational in all aspects of play, while Jared and Luke provided some great Rugby and who could forget the in and away in front of the blueys sideline from Leif Ruttley a brutal sidestep that left two would be Pats defenders lying in the Lapstone Oval dust clutching at thin air.

How frustrating was top of the table thirds 14-0 victory hardly a great lead up to this week’s top of the table clash at Lindfield. The boys had more than enough ball and position to win by 50 plus but just kept butchering once chance after another perhaps they suffered just from a little too much from overconfidence trying to score off every move instead of playing structured Rugby. However what a demolition job by the forward pack awesome in their power and humiliating the opposition whether in attack defence and especially in the scrum. Monty Sopaogo was in great touch and his raw power and ability a pleasure to watch and of course Tom Teuma keeps improving and James Richey was his usual classy self in his 250th appearance in a double blue jumper.

Their winning run came to an abrupt end when they were walloped 31-5 by St Pats in what could be a crucial loss. The boys did not click and although they were still in touch at the halfway point the second half saw the visitors dominate possession for huge chunks of play which made sure the Blueys did not get a sniff of the pill to get back into it big improvement needed against leaders Lindfield this week. When looking for those who stood out for the home team you could not go past the talent and effort put in by Sam while Bully and Dayne kept their form of late on the move.
